Description
Over millennia, our ancestors have build homes, made tools and clothing, harvested and cooked food, and created beautiful art with plants. Through careful observation, they noticed qualities that help plants to survive in their environment, and they used those qualities to create their own technologies. In this workshop we will explore native plants including nettle, fireweed, cattail, cedar and willow that are used to make cordage, mats, baskets and other useful tools. Educators will gain skills on how to teach basic cordage and mat making techniques, and will walk away with a curriculum and a teaching kit.
